Love this... and YES! Loads of unframed art! The guilt is terrible, as a lot is fabulous work by very dear friends... there have been a few mad scurries to the framer in the past because x or y was visiting... and much rearranging of pictures! Basically, we don't have enough wall space. We LOVE the pictures... just don't get round to framing, or - if we do - can't find a spare inch of wall. I dream of moving somewhere with endless walls...

A few weeks ago a good friend of mine told me of her stress dreams about her old house. It was Victorian and had been in her family since it was built, she lived in it for 11 years until her growing family meant it was time to move on. The house later was used for multiple occupancy and she was very concerned that the house was no longer loved and cared for. She dreamed about it at least weekly.

Shortly after this I was perusing Facebook marketplace for garden tables and saw a freebie being offered- weirdly it wasn’t what I was after but I enquired anyway and was contacted quickly to say that it was mine. As we exchanged details I commented ‘oh I had a friend who lived in that street, it’s nice isn’t it? ‘Yes we are very lucky, we are in number 2’. ‘Oh my goodness- that was the house!!!’

With a bit more chat we established that my friend could come with me to pick up the table - it was agreed that it wasn’t too creepy of us and that the new owners were actually very interested in the house’s history.

I had forgotten this part, but I was with my friend to help on the day she moved out and she hid a time capsule under the floorboards as she left. She was hesitant to mention it to the new people until she met them and checked whether they were kind and caring enough to the house.

Well guess what? They were lovely AND it was four years TO THE DAY since they moved in.

They had restored and decorated really sensitively and really loved the house.

We told them all the secrets about the place and answered lots of questions that they had. We told them about the time capsule.

They found it a few hours later. Sadly some damp had gotten in and the paperwork was not in good condition but there were lots of bits and pieces that survived and they were able to add to it, replace the box with a more watertight container and put it back.

My friend got some much needed closure about the house. I got a table I didn’t know I wanted but proved very useful and a week later I found the perfect bistro set for the garden on freecycle.

I love the quirks of fate sometimes 😊

Loved this little bathroom story. We are serial renovators too! Our old house has taken 10 years so far! On to some outbuildings….. I’m yearning for my own outdoor studio seperate from the house. I like peace or music to work to. My husband and I share a lovely mezzanine space at the moment but he is so shouty on the phone!! 😂 I’m in the zone doing my painting and then he shouts and I get a shock!! 😳 😂

I’m on here now (thanks to #thegoodshipillo) but I have all my housey stuff over on insta @lady_in_reaisence if you’d like to have a nosey.

Love from Dawn xx

And, yes, artwork and postcards and prints lying around the house in piles. But we did actually manage to frame (just with cheap Tiger and Wilkos frames and a few charity shop finds) a bunch of them and make a little gallery wall in the living room. I wanted to do it for years but kept thinking I couldn't unless I repainted the whole room. Turns out that hanging a bunch of lovely pictures and tidying there bookshelves is almost as good as repainting!

Lovely! I am curious whether the shower water ends up on the flon or. We got a screen when we had our bathroom done (probably, no definitely, about ten years ago, so it really needs redoing, because... well, I could probably write a whole post about it), but the floor would always always get wet, so we have ended up having a shower curtain.

Totally the same re framing! Stacks of unframed pics, all ‘pending’! The problem in our house is a lack of not-already-crammed-with-pics wall space and that most of our pending pics need custom frames which are super-pricey! So annoying as I’m incapable of not procuring a pic, if I see one I like, despite knowing I have no room for it, don’t just gets added to the Pending Pile! Your bathroom looks ace, btw. Love a T&G wall! Xx

You'll be pleased to know that you are not the only artist with flat files full of unframed art by other people, most of it quite wonderful. Maybe in my next life?

Loved the bathroom remodel pictures! Your house is coming along nicely!!

For the Procreate film, perhaps you could do some instruction on combining hand drawings with Procreate drawings to make a complete scene. Maybe adding backgrounds to a hand made drawing or combining the best sketches from a sketchbook and then combining them in Procreate, or making a night scene background.

Do I even need to tell you how much I love peeking into your home? Hahaha, I'm honoured to be mentioned! And what a stunning bathroom. Love it to bits. When can a take a bath at yours? No pressure.

I wish I had a framing fairy I really do. Framing involves just too much admin! x

Loved hearing all about your loo makeover Helen!! You inspired me to make a Pinterest board for our house! We still rent, so we can’t do anything drastic, but it’s always on my to do list to jazz up our house a bit! We tend to go for the “authentic” look - aka, random! We are also terrible at framing! So many paintings and prints hanging around waiting to be framed and hung! Why does it always feel like such a big task? Maybe a plan to hang one per month is the answer! We need a framing accountability group!

Wonderful project! I bought Laura Carlin tiles for a new bathroom too! And, no, the size did not work with our standard-sized-budget-friendly tile, so they are leaning against a wall, very nice to look at. Along with unframed and framed art.

I am also hopeless at getting brilliant drawings framed I currently have a lovely one leaning against my bookshelf- it’s by an excellent artist and features a handsome Prince! Any guesses 😉🫣

Love the process of finding your way through the bathroom reno and ultimately the outcome. Framing? Oh la la. No room on my walls (between my own work and that of fellow artists) and so yes, lots of work leaning against things. And yet, more work to be framed. I thought that's just how all artists live!

What a stunning bathroom! I recently was able to have ours revamped and I've still not got round to painting the cupboard doors!

My current illustration problem is that I'm struggling with overworking finals, I adore loose artists work (funnily enough Laura Carlin is one of my faves!) but my hand/skill doesn't match my eye yet. I'm used to rendering what's in front of me, rather than pairing back, simplifying and making design choices. Curse you years of observational drawing and art school!!!!

Any advice to speed up my stupid slow brain would be very helpful! Xx
