Thank YOU! We are getting married after 23 years of living together and we feel exactly the same. I actually proposed when my partner was having a heart attack because I had been talking about it that morning on a dog walk and so it was on my mind. Completely inappropriate and just to make it worse, I went to pottery to stay calm and supportive during his recovery and could only think of making a vessel which I kept accidentally calling an urn! Maybe I shouldn’t admit this but while we are all flying our freak flags...

I was married for 22 years and honestly I'd have gotten less for murder. Never again.

Helen, your honesty about the creative life (and life in general) is so refreshing. I’m a school teacher but had a busier summer than ever renovating and working on a long writing project but that’s just life - sometimes it all happens at once and you have to surrender to the universe 😂 I’m with you on being a bride - it’s just not a title I am drawn to 😆 my partner and I have been together for 14 years next month and goodness the late 20s/ early 30s pressure to get married was real. It sounds and looks like you had a wonderful day in your own way - inspiring. Thanks for sharing x

Yes the pressure I felt when I was younger made me rebel harder 😂 Now I don’t feel pressured, it feels OK! Here’s to ‘living in sin’!

This is simply wonderful, love that you choose bread instead of flowers! May you eat bread together for many years :)

Just brilliant. The white bread loaf toss! And you looked nothing like a bride and groom which, I'm guessing is music to your ears?! Music not THE music ( that nl about the ole bf cracked me up! )

I never liked the term bride either. Or wife actually; especially when it appears alongside 'the' Congratulations G & H ! x

Ha! I am with you on ‘wife’, I will never be called ‘wife’ or ‘mrs’. I can’t handle it!

What you said about weddings really resonated. I’d done the leave school, get married far too young, so when I fell in love with Sue and we weren’t legally able to marry, that felt right. We were together because we were right together. We we’d after 13 years as it ensured we were each other’s next of kin. It took us ages to write our vows, but having a big reason to say exactly how we felt about each other was the absolute best but. Hope you are both happy for many years to come xx

That is beautiful, just perfect. We wanted to be each other’s next of kin, and now we are 50 the pressure to get married has gone, so it felt OK. And yes it was a moment to take stock of our lives together and it felt very special. Wishing you and Sue happy years ahead too 🥰
