News from last weekend: the circus lived up to expectations.
If you get the chance to see Giffords Circus you MUST go — you hear me? Bossy finger wagging in your face. You must go.

New living room update

I am enjoying the view through our new indoor window. Why does a plan chest look pretty nice in real life, but even better when you see it through an inside window? (And I am still loving the dolls house I made into a lamp.)
Telly/ Film picks
Night Coppers on Channel 4, I mean the title alone gives me so much joy. Look at how the Night Coppers are posing 😂. In the books
and I are writing about Salty Dog and his pals, we decided that their favourite TV show is called Baddies Get Caught.Yesterday we went to see The Balled of Wallis Island. I happy-cried all the way through. What a beautiful film. Time Key is a genius.
I booked a trip for me and my mum to go and see the Bondville Model Village. You can imagine how excited I am.

Things I bought this week
New pyjamas that remind me of the ones my parents brought back from Hong Kong for me when I was about eight. My Dad won ‘car salesman of the year’ (or something like that) and the prize was a trip to Hong Kong.
I bought this model Nissen Hut from eBay because my Grandparents squatted in a Nissen hut after the second world war. A Nissen hut is a prefabricated building usually made of corrugated iron, used by the military. My grandparents had a few of their six children there. Imagine! It sounds idyllic to me, but I imagine it was cold in winter.

I found the perfect bag for my Good Ship patch.
I bought myself some peonies, they are so blousy and beautiful aren’t they?

I bought Aēsops air freshener. It’s too good for just spraying round the kitchen. I spray it into the air then walk through the mist so I smell extra nice.
A Gifford’s Circus mug. Of course.
I went to Newcastle’s Grainger Street Market looking for a naked lady lighter for my daughter’s birthday (that was top of her list 🤷♀️) but the tobacconists only had vapes so I left empty handed — but with good photos.
Grainger Street Market is the business: all rain hoods, enormous knickers, old lady nighties, under slips, frilly baby clothes, pies, chips, bags of meat 🥩.
I must come back here to draw.

How’s your weekend going? What’s for dinner? I am hoping we’ll have a good Sunday Buffet of ‘picky bits’.
Love Helenx
Love the market photos! Do you know about the Italian Chapel in Orkney? Italian prisoners of war converted a Nissen hut into a chapel to worship in, complete with hand painted interior, it’s amazing.
Totally agree about The Ballad of Wallis Island! I LOVED it SO much! You’re right, Tim Key is blimmin’ ace - Defo one of the cinematic highlights of the year for me! ✨
So envious of you going to Gifford’s, I’ve wanted to go for years, but it so rarely comes our way! One day, one day… 🤞
