Thank you so much to everyone who has been in touch to ask when Gerry’s* next Whale Print private view will be.
The good news is his prints are ready!
The online private view opens on Thursday 31st October and closes on Sunday 3rd November - on his website
*Who is Gerry? He is my housekeeper/ pal/ yard sweeper/ pot washer/ him indoors
An online private view is so much better because you can join from the comfort of your sofa, with no awkward holding of wine glasses whilst putting out the wrong hand to shake. No socialising skills required.
If you aren't familiar with Gerry’s beautiful prints of whales onto vintage sea charts, here are some to feast your eyes on:

Gerry used to make his work at Edinburgh Printmakers. But when that big weird world event happened (the 🦠😷 thing), he decided it was time to set up a studio at home. He had dreamed of doing that for years, but this was an extra kick up the bum.
We probably did all of this in the wrong order, so get ready to shout at us; we are braced. The first thing we did was order a vacuum press screen printing table and a light exposure unit, which, when they arrived, were way bigger than we ordered. These enormous pieces of equipment took up a whole room in our house. They were so big we could barely walk around them and certainly not actually use them! But we didn't want to return them because the bigger than expected size would be even better.
It quickly became apparent that we needed a bigger space than our tiny workroom, and we decided to build a cabin in the garden.
We played with the idea of building it ourselves, but on a late-night internet search, Gerry came across Bothanna Cabins and fell in love with James’s amazing buildings.

Once the cabin was up, we bribed some pals to help us move the ten-tonne (it felt like it anyway) printing equipment out of the back door, up the eight steps, across the garden, and into the new cabin. There was a bit of swearing and lots of stops to plan the next step, but we did it!
After a brief hiatus during which the pressure of the beautiful new studio caused some performance anxiety, he quietly, without fanfare or any visits from me, started printing again.

Here is a sneaky peek at some of the new work in progress.

Thank you so much for your lovely messages. He is so happy to be in his new cabin and be a full-time printmaker again. We can't wait to see his new whale prints find new homes across the world.
Here is Gerry’s brand new Substack; The Print Cabin where he’ll keep you posted about all things whale printy.

Gerry's prints look excellent. 💚
I'd also like a cabin in the garden now. It's not gonna happen, but I can dream!
