DRAWING HATS
When I am making the final artwork for a book I like to make myself a sort of nest of comforting things around me. I wear my favourite old dressing gown - I think it helps keep the work loose because you can’t get precious in a knackered old dressing gown. I wear my favourite wooly hat (hand knit by my pal Lou) pulled over my ears to block out the world. I was talking to Gillian O’Mara about this and she loves a comfy drawing hat too, she says it keeps the ideas in 😂
Do you have a drawing hat?
Things I been up to:
I’ve been reading lots of fiction based around the Scottish witch trials. I just read this incredibly moving retelling of the last days of Geillis Duncan, a young maidservant accused of being a witch in the Berwick witch trials: Hex by Jenni Fagan
I jumped on the Air Fryer band wagon and got this one. It’s amazing, I have roasted lots of veg, cooked sausages, warmed up bread, baked five Dorset Apple cakes (it’s apple season), all without turning the power guzzling oven on. YES! It feels like beating the system!
I bought myself two pairs of these stripy knee socks and THEY DON’T FALL DOWN!
I decided to sell my Wacom Cintiq. I tried it, it’s not for me. I prefer my iPad with Procreate and my Apple Pencil. Read more about MY DIGITAL SECRETS here. PLEASE Apple, make a special big picture book sized iPad for illustrators 🙏
I made a haunted wotsit branch for Halloween. No reason, just tickled me.
I watched this on IPlayer: Mezzontint. It’s a terrifying story spun around a mysterious haunted drawing 👻
I often make stick drawings for book festivals and they prove very popular, so I made a few for the shop
Bye for now! Hx
I don’t have a drawing hat but I might have to find one 🤠..…is that Cheetos hanging in your wotsit branch?...…Mezzontint sounds intriguing, unfortunately not available here in the US ☹️
Love this! I need to get a woolly drawing hat too
