I started #walktosee a few years ago to celebrate drawings made from life on our daily walks. Over time, I broadened it out to include all observational drawing, no walking necessary.
There are now over 119K #walktosee drawings. That is honestly mind-blowing! Well done, everyone. I think we sketchbooking pals are helping to preserve Instagram as a happy place for creatives.
What I like best about #walktosee is that people show the more domestic and private bits of their lives: their dogs, their holidays, the view from their bedroom window, their commute to work and the grocery shopping. It’s not all cityscapes or impressive perspective drawings of buildings.

Announcing the new #walktosee prompts
How will it work?
Every month, I will send you a prompt here to your inbox as well as announce it on Instagram.
You can interpret the prompt any way you fancy.
The first rule of #walktosee: It must be drawn from life on location. I like all types of drawing: memory drawings, drawings made from our imaginations, even drawings made from photos if we are careful, but this prompt is to celebrate drawings made from life. I am strict about it. You know I have a direct line to the art police, just saying… 👀
Your drawing can be in a sketchbook, or maybe you prefer loose sheets of paper or the backs of receipts. I recently saw the Yoshitomo Nara exhibition, and he likes to draw on bits of cardboard. Do what feels good.
Take a photo and post it on Instagram using the hashtag so we can all ooo and ahhhh and press like and stuff. I’ll share a selection on my Instagram stories each weekend.

Joining in with #walktosee is a great way to discover fellow sketchbookers — and grow your Instagram following — that’s a nice extra bonus.
So here we go!
The prompt for September is:
#walktoseeonthemove
It’s a nice broad one. Nice and easy, interpret it however you fancy. Draw from your car, on the bus, on your daily walk, on your commute, draw someone else on the move. Draw your dog/ cat/ hamster running around. That would count too. It’s up to you…
The second rule of #walktosee is have fun!
Are you in? Let me know in the comments.

P.S. Spread the word!

Don’t walk drive and draw at the same time that could be a safety hazard across the world - #walktosee would definitely be noticed by Insta!
